Q. According to Hooke’s law of elasticity, if stress is increased, the ratio of stress to strain

Mechanical Properties of Solids

Solution:

According to Hooke’s law, within the elastic limit, stress is directly proportional to the strain i.e.
Stress $\propto$ Strain
or $\quad$ Stress = k strain
$\frac{Stress}{Strain}=k$
where $k$ is the proportionality constant and is known as modulus of elasticity.
