Q. According to Bohr's theory the energy required for an electron in the $Li ^{2+}$ ion to be emitted from $n=2$ state is (given that the ground state ionization energy of hydrogen atom is $13.6 \,eV )$

Structure of Atom

Solution:

Energy of electron in $2^{\text {nd }}$ orbit of $Li ^{+2}=-13.6 \frac{Z^2}{n^2}$
$=\frac{-13.6 \times(3)^2}{(2)^2}=-30.6 \,eV$
Energy required $=0-(-30.6)=30.6\, eV$
