Q. A weak acid $H X$ has the dissociation constant of $1 \times 10^{-5} M$. It forms a salt $Na X$ on reaction with alkali. The degree of hydrolysis of $0.1 M$ solution of $Na X$ is

Equilibrium

Solution:

For a salt of weak acid $( H X)$ and strong base $( NaOF$ We know, $h=\sqrt{\frac{K_{w}}{K_{a} . C}}=\sqrt{\frac{10^{-14}}{1 \times 10^{-5} \times 0.1}}=\sqrt{10^{-8}}=10^{-4}$

Percentage degree of hydrolysis $=10^{-4} \times 100=10^{-2}$ i.e., $0.01 \%$
