Q. A tin chloride Q undergoes the following reactions (not balanced)
$Q+Cl^{-} \to X$
$Q+Me_{3}N \to Y$
$Q+CuCl_{2} \to Z+CuCl$
X is a monoanion having pyramidal geometry. Both Y and Z are neutral compounds. Choose the correct option(s)

Solution:

Compound Q is $SnCl_2$. The given reactions are
$\ce{ $\underset{\text{}}{\ce{SnCl2}}$ + Cl- -> $\underset{\text{(X)}}{\ce{SnCl^{-}_3}}$ }$
$\ce{ $\underset{\text{}}{\ce{SnCl2}}$ + Me3N -> $\underset{\text{(Y)}}{\ce{Me3N+ - Sn^{-}Cl2}}$ }$
$\ce{ $\underset{\text{}}{\ce{SnCl2}}$ + 2CuCl2 -> $\underset{\text{(Z)}}{\ce{SnCl4 + 2CuCl}}$ }$
Hybridisation of Sn in $SnCl^{-}_{3}$ is $sp^3$
Trimethylamine forms a co-ordinate bond with Sn in $SnCl_2$.
There is no lone pair on central atom of $SnCl_4(Z)$.
