Cytokinesis is the division of cytoplasm of a cell into two daughter cells after karyokinesis. Normally cytokinesis starts towards the middle of anaphase and is completed simultaneously with telophase. In animals, it is accomplished by contractile rings (composed of the actin and myosin filaments) or cleavage furrows whereas in plants it takes place by cell plate formation.
