Q. A spherical conductor of radius 2 m is charged to a potential of 120 V. It is now placed inside another hollow spherical conductor of radius 6 m. Calculate the potential to which the bigger sphere would be raised, if the smaller sphere is made to touch the bigger sphere.

KEAMKEAM 2001

Solution:

Whole of the charge of the smaller sphere will be transferred to the bigger sphere. Here,
$ {{V}_{1}}=120=\frac{kQ}{2} $
and $ {{V}_{2}}=\frac{kQ}{6}=\frac{240}{6}=40\,V $
