Q. A sonometer wire, $100 \,cm$ in length has fundamental frequency of $330\, Hz$. The velocity of propagation of transverse waves along the wire is

Waves

Solution:

For fundamental mode
$(\lambda / 2)=100 \,cm$ or $\lambda=200\, cm$
As $n=330 \,Hz$, hence
$v=n \lambda=330 \times \frac{200}{100}=660\, m / s$
