Q.
A solution of $FeCl_3$ in water acts as acidic solution due to:
Bihar CECEBihar CECE 2006Equilibrium
Solution:
$FeCl _{3}$, on hydrolysis gives acidic solution due to the presence of strong acid $( HCl )$ and weak base $\left( Fe ( OH )_{3}\right.$ ) in the solution.
$ FeCl _{3} \xrightarrow{3H_2O} \underset{\text{weak base}}{Fe ( OH )_{3}}+ \underset{\text{strong acid}}{3 HCl}$
Hence, solution is acidic.
