Q. A solution is prepared by adding $5 \,g$ of a solute $'X'$ to $45\, g$ of solvent $'Y'$. What is the mass per cent of the solute $'X'$?

Some Basic Concepts of Chemistry

Solution:

Mass percent of $X = \frac{\text{Mass of $X$}}{\text{Mass of solution}} \times 100$
$ = \frac {5}{5+45} \times 100 = 10 \%$
