Solution:

Progesterone is mainly the female sex hormone responsible for maintaining the endometrium of the uterus alongwithestrogen.It is also responsible for secondary sexual characters in females like development of mammary glands. It is secreted by corpus luteum. Corpus luteum forms after ovulation. This secretes progesterone so that after ovulation if the sperm enters the fertilised egg can easily get implanted in the uterus. Once the implantation is completed it is very important to maintain the endometrium till parturition. Thus progesterone is secreted by placenta too.
