Q. A prokaryotic cell lacks

MGIMS WardhaMGIMS Wardha 2010

Solution:

The characteristic features of prokaryotes are : (i) Absence of true nucleus. Only a circular, double-stranded DNA molecule occurs as a genetic material which is not associated with RNA and histones to form chromosomes as commonly occurs in all eukaryotes. Further, this DNA molecule does not covered by nuclear membrane which is commonly found in all eukaryotes. (ii) Only few organelles such as 70S ribosomes and reserved bodies are occurred in the cytoplasm and none is surrounded by an unit membrane, ie, they are naked.
