Q. A positively charged insulator is brought near (but does not touch) two metallic spheres that are in contact. The metallic spheres are then separated. The sphere which was initially farthest from the insulator will

Electric Charges and Fields

Solution:

The positively charged insulator pulls the free electrons in spheres towards left till electrostatic equilibrium is reached. Hence, if both spheres are now separated, the sphere II has deficiency of electrons, i.e., it has positive charges.
