Q. A particle of mass m moving with velocity vcollides elastically with another particle of samemas s which is in rest, velocity of first panicle after collision

BVP MedicalBVP Medical 2011

Solution:

If after the collision of two bodies, the total kinetic energy of the bodies remains the same as it was before the collision, then the collision is perfectly elastic. In a perfectly elastic collision the relative velocity remains unchanged in magnitude, but is reversed in direction. In the given case the second particle is at rest, hence, velocity of first particle after collision will be zero.
