Alfred Russel Wallace (1823 – 1913) was a British naturalist who independently conceived the theory of evolution through natural selection. His paper was jointly published with Charles Darwin in 1858. Thereafter Darwin published his own ideas independently in Origin of Species. Wallace worked in the Malay Archipelago.
