Q. A motor boat having a length of $10 m$ and breadth $5 cm$ is floating on a lake. The boat sinks by $5 cm$ when load gets on it. What is the mass of load?

Mechanical Properties of Fluids

Solution:

According to archimede's principle
weight of load = weight of water displaced by boat
$m \times 9.8=(10 \times 5 \times 0.05) \times 9.8 \times 10^{3}$
$m =50 \times 5 \times 10^{-2} \times 10^{3}=2500 kg$
