Q. A monoatomic gas undergoes a process in which the pressure $\left(\right.P\left.\right)$ and the volume $\left(\right.V\left.\right)$ of the gas are related as $PV^{- 3}=$ constant. What will be the molar heat capacity of gas for this process?

Solution:

$PV^{- 3}=constant \, n=-3$
$C=\frac{R}{\gamma - 1}-\frac{R}{n - 1} \, \, \gamma =\frac{5}{3}$
$C=\frac{R}{\frac{5}{3} - 1}-\frac{R}{- 3 - 1}$
$ \, =\frac{3 R}{2}+\frac{R}{4}$
$ \, =\frac{7}{4}R$
