Q. A monkey (mass $20kg$ ) climbs up on a rope. If the rope can bear a maximum tension of $250N$ . Find the maximum upward acceleration of the monkey. $\left(\text{g} = 1 0 \left(\text{ms}\right)^{- 2}\right)$

NTA AbhyasNTA Abhyas 2020

Solution:

For monkey, we can write
T -Mg= Ma
or M(g + a) = T ....(i)
for suspended weight,
T ≤ mg ....(ii)
T ≤ 25 × 10 or 250 N [breaking strength]
Solution
∴ Equation (i) becomes
20.(10 + a) ≤ 250
$\Rightarrow \text{a} \leq \frac{\text{50}}{2 0} \text{or} \text{a} \leq 2 \text{.} 5 \text{ms}^{- 2}$
∴ amax = 2.5 ms-2
