Q. A mixture of toluene and benzene forms a nearly ideal solution. Assume $P _{ B }^{\circ}$ and $P _{ T }^{\circ}$ to be the vapor pressures of pure benzene and toluene, respectively. The slope of the line obtained by plotting the total vapor pressure to the mole fraction of benzene is :-

Solution:

$P _{\text {total }}=\chi_{ B }\left( P _{ B }^{0}\right)+\chi_{ T }\left( P _{ T }^{0}\right)$
$=\chi_{ B }\left( P _{ B }^{0}\right)+\left(1-\chi_{ B }\right)\left( P _{ T }^{0}\right)$
Comparing it with $y = mx + c$
