When a metallic wire of resistance 12 ohm is bent to form a square, the equivalent circuit diagram is as shown in figure.
Resistance of $\operatorname{arm} ABC =3+3=6 \Omega$
Similarly, for $\operatorname{arm} ADC =6 \Omega$
Their effective resistance is $\frac{6 \times 6}{6+6}=3 \Omega$
