Q. A man is raising himself and the crate on which he stands with an acceleration of $5\, ms ^{-2}$ by a massless rope-and-pulley arrangement. Mass of the man is $100\, kg$ and that of the crate is $50\, kg$. If $g =10\, m s ^{-2}$, then the tension in the rope isPhysics Question Image

Laws of Motion

Solution:

$m_{1}=100\, kg , m_{2}=50\, kg , a=5\, m s ^{-2}$
$T+N-m_{1} g=m_{1} a$
$T-N-m_{2} g=m_{2} a$
Solving these: $T=1125\, N$ and
$N=375\, N$
