Q. A machine gun is mounted on a $2800 kg$ vehicle on a horizontal smooth rod (negligible friction). The gun fires 10 bullets per sec with a velocity of $200 m / s$. If the mass of each bullet is $50 g$. What is the acceleration produced in the vehicle?

Laws of Motion

Solution:

Momentum of each bullets $= Mv$
$=50 \times 10^{-3} \times 200$
$=10 kg m / s $
$F =\frac{ nP }{ t }=\frac{10 \times 10}{1}=100 N (\text { time } =1 sec ) $
Force $= ma$
$a=\frac{100}{2800}$
$a=0.035=3.5 cm / s ^{2}$
