Q. A machine gun fires $50 \,gm$ bullets at a speed of $1000 \,m / s$. The gunner, holding the machine gun in his hands, can exert an average force of $180$ newton against the gun. Determine the maximum number of bullets he can fire per minute.

Work, Energy and Power

Solution:

mass of bullet $=50$ gram.
speed of bullet $=v=1000\, m / s$.
recoil force $=180\, N$
$F = n ( mv )$
$n =\frac{ F }{ mv }=\frac{180}{0.050 \times 1000}$
$=3.6$ bullet / sec
$ \therefore $ no. of bullets per minute
$ 3.6 \times 60=216 $ bullets / min
