Rajasthan PETRajasthan PET 2012

Solution:

$ A{{l}_{2}}{{O}_{3}} $ maybe converted to anyhydrous $ AlC{{l}_{3}} $ by heating of mixture of $ A{{l}_{2}}{{O}_{3}} $ and carbon in dry chlorine. $ A{{l}_{2}}{{O}_{3}}+3C+\underset{hot\text{ }and\text{ }dry}{\mathop{3C{{l}_{2}}}}\,\xrightarrow[{}]{{}}\underset{(anhydrous\text{ }AlC{{l}_{3}})}{\mathop{A{{l}_{2}}C{{l}_{6}}}}\, $ Note Anhydrous $ AlC{{l}_{3}} $ exists in the form of dimer as
