Q.
A given nucleus, of binding energy $B$, contains $Z$ protons & $N$ neutrons. The mass $M (N, Z)$ of the nucleus is given by :-
( $C$ :- Speed of light)
Solution:
As, Binding energy; $B =(\Delta m ) C ^{2}$
or $(\Delta m )= B / C ^{2}$
$NMn + ZM _{ p }- M ( N , Z )= B / C ^{2}$
$\therefore M ( N , Z ) = NMn + ZMp - B / C ^{2}$
