Q. A gaseous reaction $X_{2}\left(\right.g\left.\right) \rightarrow Z\left(\right.g\left.\right)+1/2y\left(\right.g\left.\right)$ shows increase in pressure from 150 mm to 170 mm in 10 minutes. The rate of disappearance of $X_{2}$ is

Solution:

Pressure $\alpha $ concentration

Rate of appearance of $y=\frac{170 - 150}{10}=2$ mm $min^{- 1}$

Rate of disappearance of $X_{2}=2\times $ rate of appearance of y

$=2\times 2=4$ mm $min^{- 1}$ .
