Q. A galvanic cell is set up from a zinc bar weighing $50 \,g$ and $1.0 $ litre, $1.0\, M , CuSO _{4}$ solution. How long would the cell run, assuming it delivers a steady current of $1.0$ ampere

Electrochemistry

Solution:

$1 $ gram equivalent $(65$ g $Zn$ ) will give $96500 \,C$.

$50\,g$ will give charge $=\frac{96500}{65} \times 50 \,C$

$I t=\frac{96500}{65} \times 50$

$ t =\frac{96500}{65 \times 1} \times 50=74230.8\, sec$

$=\frac{74230.8}{3600}=20.62 \,hrs \approx 21 \,hrs $
