Q. A engine develops $20 \,kW$ of power. How much time will it take to lift a mass of $200\, kg$ to a height of $40\, m$? $(g = 10 \,m/s^2)$

UP CPMTUP CPMT 2007

Solution:

Power $P=\frac{mgh}{t}$
$\left(20\times10^{3}W\right)=\frac{\left(200\,kg\right)\left(10\,m s^{2}\right)\left(40\,m\right)}{t}$
or $t=\frac{\left(200\,kg\right)\left(10 m s^{2}\right)\left(40\,m\right)}{\left(20\times10^{3}w\right)}$
$t=4\,s$
