Solution:

$I_{\text{ disc} }$ about the axis along its diameter
$=\frac{M R^{2}}{4}$ ...(i)
Using radius of gyration, $I=M k^{2}$ ...(ii)
Comparing Eqs. (i) and (ii), we get $k=\frac{R}{2}$.
