Q. A cube of side $a$ is placed on an inclined plane of inclination $\theta $ . What is the maximum value of $\theta $ for which the cube will not topple?

NTA AbhyasNTA Abhyas 2022

Solution:

Given,
A cube of side $a$ is placed on an inclined plane of inclination $\theta $ as shown below:
Solution
The cube is about to topple when the line of gravitational force $\left(m g\right)$ passes through the edge $A$ of the cube as shown above.
Thus, for the cube, the maximum value of $\theta $ for which the cube will not topple is $45^\circ $ .
$\therefore \theta _{max}=45^\circ $
