Q. A crown glass prism of refracting angle $6^{o}$ is to be used for deviation without dispersion with a flint glass of angle of prism $\alpha $ . Given: for crown glass $\mu _{r}=1.513$ and $\mu _{v}=1.523,$ for flint glass $\mu _{r}=1.645$ and $\mu _{v}=1.665.$ What should be the value of $\alpha $ ?

Solution:

$\Rightarrow\left(\mu_{V_1}-\mu_{r_1}\right) \alpha_1=\left(\mu_{V_2}-\mu_{r_2}\right) \alpha_2$
or $\Rightarrow \alpha_2=\frac{(1.523-1.513)}{(1.665-1.645)} 6^{\circ}=3^o$
