Q. A copper wire and a silicon wire are heated from room temperature to $ 60^{\circ}C $ . Then

J & K CETJ & K CET 2009

Solution:

Copper is a metal whereas silicon is a semiconductor. The temperature coefficient of resistance is positive for metals and negative for semiconductor. Therefore, the resistance of copper wire increases and that of silicon wire decreases as the wires are heated.
