Q. A coordination compound $X$ gives pale yellow colour with $AgNO_{3}$ solution while its isomer $Y$ gives white precipitate with $BaCl_{2}$. Two compounds are isomers of $CoBrSO_{4}\cdot 5NH_{3}$. What could be the possible formula of $X$ and $Y$ ?

Coordination Compounds

Solution:

$\underset{\text{X}}{{[Co\left(NH_{3}\right)_{5}SO_{4}] }} Br \to [Co(NH_{3})_{5}SO_{4}]^{+}+Br^{-}$
$AgNO_{3}+Br^{-} \to\underset{\text{pale yellow}}{AgBr}+NO^{-}_{3}$
$\underset{\text{Y}}{{[Co(NH_{3})_{5}Br]}}SO_ {4} \to [Co(NH_{3})_{5}Br]^{2+}+SO^{2-}_{4}$
$BaCl_{2}+SO^{2-}_{4} \to \underset{\text{white ppt.}}{{BaSO_{4}}}+2Cl^{-}$
