Q. A constant potential difference is applied between the ends of the wire. If the length of the wire is elongated $4$ times, then the drift velocity of electrons will be

AP EAMCETAP EAMCET 2015

Solution:

The drift velocity in inversely proportional to the length $(I)$ of wire
$v_{d} \propto \frac{1}{1} \quad \frac{v_{d_{1}}}{v_{d_{2}}}=\frac{l_{2}}{l_{1}}=\frac{41}{1}$
Here, $l_{1}$ and $l_{2}$ are the lengths of wire in two Conditions
$\Rightarrow v_{d_{1}}: v_{d_{2}}=4: 1$
