Q. A chemosensitive area found adjacent to the rhythm centre in the brain is highly sensitive to the increased concentration of

Breathing and Exchange of Gases

Solution:

A chemosensitive area is situated near the respiratory centre, medulla. It is highly sensitive to the change of $CO _{2}$ concentration or change in blood $pH$ $\left( H ^{+}\right)$. Blood $CO _{2}$ concentration influences the $pH$ by forming $HCO _{3}^{-}$, within the RBCs using the enzyme, carbonic anhydrase.
