Q. A charged particle is released from rest in a region of steady and uniform electric and magnetic fields which are parallel to each other. The particle will move in a

IIT JEEIIT JEE 1999Moving Charges and Magnetism

Solution:

The charged particle will be accelerated parallel (if it is a positive charge) or antiparallel (if it is a negative charge) to the electric field, i.e. the charged particle will move parallel or antiparallel to electric and magnetic field.
Therefore, net magnetic force on it will be zero and its path will be a straight line.
