Q. A car starts from rest and accelerates uniformly to a speed of $180\,km/h$ in $10\,s$. The distance covered by the car in this time interval is

KEAMKEAM 2009Motion in a Straight Line

Solution:

Speed, v = 180 $kmh^{-1}$ =50 $ms ^{-1}$ times t =10s
sence Acceleration of the car a =$\frac{v-u}{t}=\frac{50-0}{10}$
$5 ms^{-2}$
Thus the distance covered by the car
$S=\frac{1}{2}at^2=\frac{1}{2}\times 5\times (10)^2$ =250 m
