Q. A car leaves station $X$ for station $Y$ every $10 \min.$ The distance between $X$ and $Y$ is $60\, km$. The car travels at a speed of $60\, km\, h ^{-1}$. A man drives a car from $Y$ towards $X$ at a speed of $60 \,km\, h ^{-1}$. If he starts at the moment when the first car leaves station $X$, then the number of cars he would meet on route is

Motion in a Straight Line

Solution:

Since the man would take $1\, h$ to reach from $y$ to $x$, and $6$ cars in addition to $1$ car $($ at $t=0)$ have gone on road in this time interval, so he will meet $7$ cars on route.
