Q. A bottle of dry ammonia and a bottle of dry hydrogen chloride connected through a long tube are opened simultaneously at both ends, the white ammonium chloride ring first formed will be:

Solution:

Molecular mass of $N H_{3}=17$
Moleclar mass of $H C l=35.5$
$\because$ rate of diffusion $\propto \sqrt{\frac{1}{M}}$
$\therefore N H_{3}$ will diffuse faster than $H C l$ and
hence ring will be formed first nearer to $H C l$ bottle.
