Q. A body of mass m has gram specific heat $c$ :

Thermal Properties of Matter

Solution:

Heat capacity of the body is the amount of heat required to raise the body temperature by $1^{\circ} C$ so this is given as $m c$ and water equivalent of the body is the amount of water which requires same amount of heat which the body requires for a specific rise in temperature, given as $w=m c / s_{w}=m c$ as $s_{w}=1\, cal / g { }^{\circ} C$.
