Q. A body of mass $500\, g$ is thrown upwards from the surface of a planet with velocity $20\, m / s$ and reaches back to the surface of the planet after $20\, s$. Then the weight of the body on that planet is

Gravitation

Solution:

Here, $u=20\, m / s , m=500\, g =0.5 \,kg , t=20\, s$
Using $h=u t+\frac{1}{2} g t^{2}$
where $g$ is the acceleration due to gravity on the planet.
$0=20 \times 20+\frac{1}{2}(-g)(20)^{2}$ or $g=2\, m / s ^{2}$
Weight of the body on the planet $=m g=0.5\, kg \times 2\, m / s ^{2}=1\, N$
