Q. A body of mass $5 kg$ starts from the origin with an initial velocity $u=30 \hat{ i }+40 \hat{ j }$ $m s^{-1}$. If a constant force $-6 \hat{i}-5 \hat{j} \quad N$ acts on the body, the time (in seconds) in which the $y$ component of the velocity becomes zero is

Solution:

From Newton's second law of motion,
$F_{y}=\frac{\triangle P_{y}}{\triangle t}$
$\triangle t=\frac{\triangle P_{y}}{F_{y}}$
$=\frac{0-(5 \times 40)}{-5}=40 s$
