Q. A body of mass $10\, kg$ moves with a velocity $ v $ of $2 \,m/s$ along a circular path of radius $8 \,m$. The power produced by the body will be

ManipalManipal 2010Work, Energy and Power

Solution:

Power is defined as rate of change of energy in a system or the time rate of doing work.
$P =\frac{d E}{d t}$
$=\frac{d W}{d t}$
Also work $=$ force $\times$ displacement $=F \times d$
In a circular motion, displacement is zero, therefore,
$P =\frac{d}{d t}(F \times d) $
$=\frac{d}{d t}(0)=0$
