Q. A black body at 200 K is found to exit maximum energy at a wavelength 14 $\mu$m. When its temperature is raised to 1000 K, then wavelength at which maximum energy emitted is

Thermal Properties of Matter

Solution:

By Wien's displacement law
$\lambda_m T $ = constant
or $\lambda_{m1} T_1=\lambda_{m2} T_2$
= $\lambda_{m2}=\frac{\lambda_{m1} T_1}{T_2}=\frac{14\times200}{1000}=2.8 \mu m$
