Q. A binary mixture of bivalent metals having mass $2 \, g$ molecular mass of $A$ and $B$ are $15$ and $30$ respectively, is dissolved in $HCl$, it evolve $2.24 \,L \,H _{2}$ at STP, what is the mass of A present in mixture?

Some Basic Concepts of Chemistry

Solution:

$A +2 HCl \rightarrow ACl _{2}+ H _{2}$
mole $=\frac{x}{15} \frac{x}{15}$
$B +2 HCl \rightarrow BCl _{2}+ H _{2}$
mole $=\frac{2-x}{30} \frac{2-x}{30}$
Mole of $H _{2}=\frac{x}{15}+\frac{2-x}{30}=\frac{2.24}{22.4}=\frac{1}{10}$
$\frac{x}{15}-\frac{x}{30}=\frac{1}{10}-\frac{1}{15}$
$x=1\, g$
