Q. A beaker containing a mixture of liquid $A$ and liquid $B$, in equilibrium with each other, is cooled very slowly. If point '$D$' on the graph is where solidification of both liquids is complete, how many different phases coexist along line ' $CD$ ' if freezing point of liquid $B$ and liquid $A$ are $-25^{\circ} C$ and $-78^{\circ} C$ respectively.Chemistry Question Image

Solution:

At point ' $D$ ', solidification of both liquids, $A$ and $B$ takes place. So, along the line ' $C D$ ' on the graph four phases will co-exist, which are liquid $-A$, solid $-A$, liquid- $B$ and solid- $B$.
