Q. A battery of emf $4 \,V$ and internal resistance $r$. this battery is connected to an external resistance of $2$ ohm, a current of $1$ amp flows in the circuit. How much current will flow if the terminals of the battery are connected directly?

Solution:

Internal resistance of the battery can be calculated as follows
$I=E / R+r$
$1=4 / 2+r$
OR $2+r=4$
$r=2 \,\Omega$
when terminals are connected directly
$R=0$
$I =E / r=4 / 2=2 A$
