Q. A $3 \mu F$ capacitor is connected to a $220 V , 50 Hz$ a.c source. Calculate the rms value of current through the circuit. Also, find the peak value of voltage across the capacitor.

Alternating Current

Solution:

Here, $C =3 \times 10^{-6} F , E _{ y }$
$=220 V , v=50 Hz$
$I_{v}=? E_{0}=?$
$I_{v}=\frac{E_{v}}{X_{c}}$
$=\frac{E_{v}}{\frac{1}{\omega C}}=E_{v} \times \omega C$
$I_{v}=E_{v} 2 \pi v C$
$I_{v}=220 \times 2 \times \frac{22}{7} \times 50 \times 3 \times 10^{-6}$
$=0.207 A$
$\therefore E _{0}=\sqrt{2} E _{ v }=1.41 \times 220=311.1 V$
