Q. A $ 10 $ micro farad capacitor is charged to $ 500 \,V $ and then its plates are joined together through a resistance of $ 10 \,ohm $ . The heat produced in the resistance is

AMUAMU 2019

Solution:

Energy stored in the capacitor
$E=\frac{1}{2}CV^{2}$
$=\frac{1}{2}\times10\times10^{-6}\times (500)^{2}$
$=5\times 10^{-6}\times 25\times 10^{4}=1.25\,J$
Heat produced in resistance = energy stored
$=1.25\,J$
