Q. $50\,\Omega$ and $100\,\Omega$ resistors are connected in series. This connection is connected with a battery of $2.4\, V$. When a voltmeter of $100\,\Omega$ resistance is connected across $100\, \Omega$ resistor, then the reading of the voltmeter will be

VITEEEVITEEE 2010

Solution:

Equivalent resistance of the circuit $R_{\text {eq}}=100\, \Omega$
Current through the circuit, $i=\frac{2.4}{100} A$
PD across combination of voltmeter and $100\, \Omega$ resistance
$=\frac{2.4}{100} \times 50=1.2\, V$
Since the voltmeter and $100\, \Omega$ resistance are in parallel.
So, the voltmeter reads the same value ie, $1.2\, V$.
