Reindeer moss (Cladonia rangiferina) of the arctic region is widely used as food for reindeers and cattle. They belong to the genus Cladonia. It is extremely branched with the growth of 3-5 mm per year. It has no protective layer but a loose layer of hyphae that covers the phycobionts.
